Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka (8 CD)

Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka (あかね色に染まる坂, lit. The Hill Dyed Rose Madder), also known in short as Akasaka, is a Japanese adult visual novel developed by Feng and first released for the PC as a DVD on July 27, 2007. A version without adult content was released under the title Akaneiro ni Somaru Saka: Parallel on July 31, 2008 by GN Software for the PlayStation 2. A port of this version of the game was released for the PlayStation Portable on December 17, 2009 under the title Akaneiro ni Somaru Saka: Portable. The gameplay in Akaneiro ni Somaru Saka follows a plot line which offers pre-determined scenarios with courses of interaction, and focuses on the appeal of the six female main characters. Two light novels were produced in December 2007 and February 2008 written by different authors, and an Internet radio show began in April 2008. A manga adaptation began serialization in Kadokawa Shoten’s seinen magazine Comp Ace on June 26, 2008 illustrated by Homare Sakazuki. An anime adaptation produced by TNK and directed by Keitaro Motonaga aired in Japan between October and December 2008.

On his way to school, Junichi Nagase saves a girl from danger. Later, due to a misunderstanding, he kisses her. Shocked and disgusted, and without understanding what just happened or why, she screams at him and tells him to “just die!” As it turns out, the girl, Yuuhi Katagiri, is a new transfer student and, much to the surprise of Junichi and his younger sister Minato, their father arranged for Yuuhi to be Junichi’s future wife! Of course, getting married to “that perverted idiot” is the absolute last thing Yuuhi wants! Junichi’s crazy school life with his tsundere bride-apparent has begun!

Just like in life, if you expect one thing and get something else, you’re bound to be disappointed. Watching this with an open mind, you will realize that Akane-Iro ni Somaru Saka is actually a very entertaining and funny anime. Like most slice of life school comedy harems, a premise is presented at the beginning of the show, which is usually far fetched but bound for some form of entertainment. If you read the anime summary you’ll get the gist, but it does generate enough laughs and surprises to keep you entertained for 12 episodes. An amazing feat that many fail to miss is that 8 of the 10 characters get relatively large amounts of airtime for every episode. With that, the story seems to progress relatively quick and seamless. Sometimes you won’t realize the episode is over before you know it.
